Since August, I’ve been enjoying a two-year appointment as a Visiting Fellow at the Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy at Chapman University in Orange County.
The pocket particulars are principally about securing our memories about things, places, and people who mean something to us. In a world committed to the meaninglessness of materialism, they remind us of things that are transcendent. Even a pocket globe of the stars reminds us that we are not the center of the universe. In my pocket is an elk antler key fob that is a constant reminder that the beauty of nature is far greater that the change that wears holes in my pocket.
