“It’s easier than ever . . . to publish a book, . . . But it’s harder than ever to grab the audience’s attention.” I can certainly attest to this! Luckily for me, it was pretty inexpensive to produce my novella, and it’s continuing to face the world on Amazon without boxes of print books sitting in some warehouse waiting to be pulped. This somehow tempers feelings of failure, since the desire to create something worth reading has been satisfied and because I’m old enough recognize that, unlike my father, I was not built for sales.
As long as that discontent, disappointment, and envy does not become potent enough to unravel the fabric of the nation itself - this is a healthy thing.
